Psalms 48:14 For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
Psalms 48:14.
The New Revised Standard Version: Ruth 2:8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens: Boaz's family history. When we read in the NT the family line of Jesus Christ we learn in Matt.1:5 that Rahab was the mother of Boaz. We learn in Joshua ch.2 that Rahab was a Gentile woman who loved the one true God of Israel. Here we have her son reaching out to a Gentile woman who has also decided to commit herself to that same one true God. Matthew 1:5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; A personal detail. I love the way the Holy Spirit adds the peronal detail of Boaz by Rahab and Obed by Ruth. We know from the OT books of Joshua and Ruth that Rahab and Ruth were Gentile women. Besides that astonishing fact, most familiy histories are recorded as someone son of - son of -. Genesis 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. Kingly bread and wine. When Melchizedek offered Abram bread and wine, he was being very generous. Bread and wine were food of royalty at the time. It foreshadows Jesus Christ, our Priest-King, who offers us bread and wine representing His Body and Blood when we participate at the Lord's supper. Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; Asteroids. WELL, IF AN ASTEROID ENTERS INTO THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE IT LIGHTS UP AND FIRE COMES FROM IT. IN THE RESULT OF THIS, IT WOULD HAVE A LONG TAIL BEHIND IT, SO IT WILL LOOK LIKE A TORCH. IT WILL HAVE TO CRUMBLE TO FALL INTO RIVERS AND FOUNTAINS OF WATER. Matthew 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love your neighbor. The teaching that love of neighbor (Lev 19) is one of the most central commandments in the Old Testament was already prevalent in Judaism (e.g. y. Nedarim, 89:15). This explains why in Luke 10:27 why a man whom Jesus questions is able to give the same answer as Jesus gives here on his own. Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Love your neighbor. The teaching that love of neighbor (Lev 19) is one of the most central commandments in the Old Testament was already prevalent in Judaism (e.g. y. Nedarim, 89:15). This explains why the man is able to correctly answer on his own. Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Justifying the Ungodly. Paul may have been alluding to Prov 17:15 and similar passages which strikingly say that it is an abomination to God for anyone to justify the wicked. Proverbs 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. Justifying the Ungodly. Paul may have been alluding to this and similarly worded passages in Rom 4:5 when he strikingly says that with the coming of Christ, God DOES justify the ungodly. |
